The sweet 17-year-old from Ontario has managed to become a celebrity relying only on her singing and songwritting abilities. The middle of three children, in the small town Napanee, Avril Lavigne started to manifest her talents at a young age, by participating in the church choir, playing the quitar and writing her own music. Her vocal abilities were recognized when she won the grand prize in a radio station contest: a trip to the city of Ottawa, to perform a duet in concert with another Ontario native, country music star Shania Twain.  This relative success wasn't enough for the ambitious teenager, whose talent got noticed by
Nettwerk Management, after rejections from other agencies. An Arista Records representative was impressed by her singing skills and got Avril Lavigne signed before she even got the chance to complete her demo.
Producer/songwritter Cliff Magness worked with Avril on her first single "Complicated" which was released in the early spring of 2002. The success of "Complicated" led to the creation of Avril's debut full-length CD, "Let Go", that contains smash hits like "Sk8er Boi" and off course, "Complicated". The strengh of her voice, the quality of her music and a few clever marketing tactics have kept the public spotlight fixed on her.
